TRIEC Seeking Nominations for Immigrant Success Awards

The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) is pleased to announce the call for entries for the 5th annual Immigrant Success (IS) Awards, sponsored by RBC. Each year TRIEC presents the IS Awards to recognize innovation and leadership in integrating skilled immigrants into the Greater Toronto Region labour market. Employers and individuals are invited to apply or submit a nomination by Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at www.isawards.ca.

There are four IS Awards:

RBC Immigrant Advantage Award
This award will recognize an organization that demonstrates the business impact of leveraging the skills of immigrants, yielding tangible results for both the business and immigrants.

CBC Toronto Vision Award for Immigrant Inclusion
This award will recognize a unique initiative that breaks down employment barriers for skilled immigrants and has the potential to create lasting change. This initiative will have broader impact because of partnerships.

Toronto Star Award for Excellence in Workplace Integration
This award will recognize a practice that has been fully implemented and established in an organization with positive results that are transforming the organization.

Canadian HR Reporter Individual Achievement Award
This award will recognize an individual who has demonstrated leadership and innovation in HR practice in integrating skilled immigrants in the workplace.

New TTC Subway Cars Unveiled

Toronto Transit Commission, on Thursday, unveiled its new sleek ride for the subway system. Toronto Star reports that the Toronto Rocket, as the new train is being called, feature an anti-microbial coating on stanchions to prevent the spread of germs; a more open design inside the doors to provide easier loading for crowds and people using wheelchairs or strollers; three flip-up seats inside the door for accessibility, and new emergency features that automatically train cameras on the area from which an alarm has been triggered. The expanded floor space and open design will allow for up to 10 per cent more riders.

Torontonians will have a preview at the Toronto Rockets within next couple of weeks at Sheppard Station where it will be parked.

Toronto Malayalee TV Film Production

iMalayalee Productions – a new Malayalam TV and film production was launched in Toronto recently by the ‘nightingale of south’ Padmasree K.S. Chitra on Sep 6, 2010.

The production company will be producing serials and shows for TV audience while utilizing and promoting local talents. The production is in collaboration with Kairali TV. Story & direction by Biju Thayalchira, Salin Joseph is the Production Executive, Cinematography by Sony Paul, Camera & screenplay by Shajan Elias, Editing & Mixing by Sudhir Nambiar, and Assistant screenplay & costume design is handled by Watson Charles.
