Canadian Nehru Trophy Boat Race and BMS Onam celebrations Sun, 21 Aug 2011 20:22:19 +0000 sunil.sreedhar Dear friends,

Brampton Malayalee Samajam (BMS) is happy to announce that the 3rd “Canadian Nehru Trophy Boat Race” will take place on September 3rd, 2011. BMS requests you to spend your day with us at the beautiful Heart Lake Conservation Park (10818 Heart Lake Rd, Brampton) on 3rd September and enjoy the thrilling Vallamkali – along with a sumptuous Onasadya!

The scenes from last year’s races are still fresh in our minds, with the split second result of the final race bringing alive the tranquil waters of Heart Lake! This year even more teams from across North America have registered to participate. We are sure that the race will become more competitive with additional teams joining in!  The coveted Canadian Nehru Trophy and $1000 Cash prize are sponsored by Manoj Karatha of Remax Performance.

Our traditional “Onasadhya” starts at around 12 noon. Food Coupons must be purchased in advance for Onasadya. (Sale of food coupons closes on 30th August – Child $8, Adult $16). Please contact Mr. Jose at 289 632 6314 / 416 573 2994 to purchase food coupons.

We ask you to share the spirit and festivity – that as children – we enjoyed back home during the Onam festival season. Let’s impart our Malayalee customs and folklore to our younger generation! Come and enjoy 3rd September in traditional Malayalee style at the Heart lake Conservation park! Be there to see the fantastic races and the split second finishes!!!

An Appeal from BMS

We are proud that our community has given us wholehearted support in implementing new ideas and events. The concept behind the boat race is to promote the culture and tradition of our motherland– Kerala. Our Vallamkali has now grown to become a recognized event in North America, and teams from New York, Detroit etc are spending time and money to participate in this event. But we will not be able to conduct this event without your presence and financial support. There is a lot of cost involved in organizing it, which has to be funded by the support of our well wishers and sponsors. This is an appeal to our Malayalee community to come forward and show their support to keep this concept alive! Your encouragement is needed to host such an event!

Special thanks to Toronto Malayalee Samajam – and also to all Malayalee organizations and community / religious institutions that are supporting the event! We look forward to seeing you on the 3rd.

Thanks & Best Regards,
