Islamic Institute of Toronto
The Islamic Institute of Toronto was established in 1996 to fill a void within the Muslim community.
At that time, the IIT’s model of Islamic education in a structured format was a novel idea. The IIT introduced semester-based courses in aqeedah, fiqh, Quran and hadith and has since benefited hundreds of students in their understanding and practise of Islam. The IIT’s flagship program – the Saturday night tafseer program with Shaikh Abdool Hamid has been running since 1996.
The IIT’s original board of directors consisted of Br. Muneeb Nasir (President), Br. Fareed Amin (secretary), Br. Farhad Khadim, (Vice President), Br. Haniff Khan and Br. Muhammed Haseeb Ali.
Shaikh Ahmad Kutty and Shaikh Abdool Hamid have served as the main lecturers since the inception of the IIT.
With interest in Islamic education rising, the IIT decided that it would embark on establishing a unique institution dedicated for the dissemination of Islamic knowledge. The IIT purchased 8 acres of land in North Eastern Toronto and is currently working on an ambitious project to establish an Islamic educational complex which, when completed will house the Islamic Institute, an Islamic High School and social and recreational facilities.
The IIT’s vision is to establish a facility where the community can play, ponder and pray.

St. Mathew’s Mar Thoma Church
St. Mathew’s Mar Thoma Church, Toronto is the second Mar Thoma parish to be established in Greater Toronto, in 2001, to better serve the Mar Thoma families living in the western portion of metropolitan Toronto, and the cities further west. These include Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, Brantford, Guelph, Cambridge, Waterloo, Stratford, London, and St. Thomas. The Mar Thoma Church is neither a Protestant Church of the Western type nor an Orthodox Church of the Eastern type. It is oriental in its worship, autonomous in its administration, and missionary in its actions. It is a bridge between the Eastern and Western ecclesiastical traditions. The oriental form of worship and traditional ritualistic practices are maintained, and worship is conducted in the language of the people. Mission work and evangelism are given high importance.
When we started as a Parish in 2001 we had a membership of 91 families, and with the steady arrival of new immigrants over the years, the membership has grown to 223 families by the end of 2008. We have grown stronger with a single vision to move forward to fulfill and accomplish the goals of our parish. We have regular worship service every Sunday at the Grace United Church in Brampton, a rented facility. On the first and third Sunday of every month the worship service is in English, and on the second, fourth, and fifth Sundays it is in Malayalam. The parish has now begun construction of its own church building on a property purchased in the Town of Halton Hills.
